We are in the process of planning some new events for December – please keep in touch with us and continue to share your thoughts, stories, and ideas.

A few updates:

On December 9th, the Board of Supervisors may be taking up the issue of whether to join Counties such as Marin, Alameda, San Francisco, and Los Angeles in filing a lawsuit against Prop 8.

Since this is a legal matter, the issue will be taken up in closed session; however, it would still be extremely helpful for residents from all over Contra Costa, to show up during public testimony to offer their support of the Supervisors to participate in the lawsuit.

Contra Costa Times reports on Walnut Creek Rally!

Walnut Creek and Contra Costa County were loud and clear Nov. 15th with their support for Equal Rights and Liberties for ALL!!!! When I started organizing this event, I thought having 50 people would be a great turnout… but we ended up with nearly 500!!! Thank you so much to each and every one of you for your support and commitment. It is all of you that helped make this event such a great success!

WEAR RED at Walnut Creek City Hall!!

Just a reminder to everyone to wear RED to the rally this weekend, and if you want take it a step further, please wear red, white and blue! We want to be as visible as possible!!

The protest group down in LA posted a beautiful poster for our cause that Shepard Fairey designed, the world famous artist who created the iconic Obama Poster. I’ve posted it below, please view this link if you would like to download the full size poster.

I’m very encouraged with the response I’ve been getting about this event via e-mail, thank you all for your love and support. I can’t wait to see the turnout this weekend at City Hall! Together, we CAN make a difference!!

Good News Everyone!

I just received a phone call from the Contra Costa Times. They will be sending out photographers to our event in Walnut Creek! Get ready to show the world how we feel!

Also, our media correspondent Chris and the organizer from the Alameda group will also be doing a radio spot tomorrow morning on KPFA radio 94.1 FM at 7:30 AM so be sure to tune in!

It looks like we are going to have a very strong group at the rally this weekend, please remember that this is a peaceful protest and that we need to keep things positive and respect others in the area. Please also review the Join The Impact Mission Statement. We hope to see you all there!

***REMINDERS***

1) Please try and wear Red, White, and Blue to the rally! We feel it is important to show that we are not just LGBT, but more importantly, Americans deserving of equal treatment under the law.

2) There is parking available on South Broadway, about 2 blocks from City Hall. The Walnut Creek Police Department has requested that we park in that area, as it has enough parking spaces for groups of our size. The fee is $3.00 for all day parking.

3) Please remember that our pickets can only be 1/4 of an inch thick, or they may be considered weapons. We don’t want that…

We Still Need Volunteers!

With the protest just days away, we are still in need of volunteers to help get the word out about this event. Please download our flyer and post them anywhere you are able, leave stacks of them at local businesses and community centers. You can even print some out and post them inside your car… anything to help us get out the word!

I’ve compiled a list of neighborhoods we would like to target. If you can volunteer in any of these areas, please send us an e-mail at protest8contracosta@gmail.com and we will get you set up with a team(2-4) of volunteers. We are looking for people to hand out flyers in these areas… even if you can only commit to a small neighborhood area, please contact us and let us know where you will be.

Lafayette:
Neighborhoods off Mt. Diablo Blvd

Walnut Creek:
Ygnacio Valley Rd (within 5 mile radius of the protest location)
Waldon/Treat Blvd area to Oak Grove Rd

Concord:
Willow Pass Road (Within 3 mile radius of downtown area)

Pleasant Hill:
Pleasant Hill Rd/Gregory Ln area (within 1 mile radius)

As I was reading through the Discussion Boards on jointheimpact.wetpaint.com, I found may people in Contra Costa County who were interested in setting up an official protest location in our area. I would like to at least have one strong group in Concord or Walnut Creek, if you have any suggestions, or would like to help us organize, please post here!
